New Nordic School by the Sea

The corner stones for the interior design are based on the building’s impressive wooden architecture and good quality natural materials together with a natural colour palette.

On the ground floor of Supercell’s headquarters in Jätkäsaari Wood City in Helsinki we find a new and modern private day care, run by Supercell and operated by New Nordic School by the Sea.

The new 8-floor building is the highest wooden office building in Finland and houses 240 employees. The day care centre is located on the ground floor, with its outdoor playground built on top of the building’s parking garage.

The interior idea for both the new headquarters and the day care centre reflects the values of Supercell’s founders – respect for the individual and investing in their working environment. The mission to realise the design for the day care was assigned to the interior architects at Fyra who created a high quality interior that has taken the children’s’ needs into consideration.

The corner stones for the interior design are based on the building’s impressive wooden architecture and good quality natural materials together with a natural colour palette. Other strong themes are sustainability, responsibility and ecological choices.

The facilities at New Nordic School by the Sea offer the children a homely and safe atmosphere with visual experiences that reflect the marine environment from the nearby sea, with organic shapes and influences from the Finnish nature. Different visual images support these themes and there are plenty of surprising details to be found in different parts of the interior.

The facilities were designed with the individual needs of the children in mind. There was also a desire to activate the children to move so there are multiple set ups and fun elements around the premises for that purpose.

– The most important thing was to create a safe and inspiring environment which supports and inspires the children’s learning, but also with the flexibility to adjust to the various needs of the children, explains interior architect Anu Latvala from Fyra.

Input interior was responsible for procurement, delivery and installation of the interior to the New Nordic School by the Sea.

– It has been exciting to be part of this unique project in which the children’s wishes were also taken into account. The interior was realized with top quality and sustainable choices that will last over time, says Project Manager Riikka-Maria Slotte, Input interior Helsinki.
